Both Omega SC adult teams had tough games this week.  On Monday the Men's team were up against a young team with considerable talent.  Adjusting to the absence of some of our regulars, and with some late arrivals throwing us off in terms of subbing, we were too disorganized in the first half.  We couldn't seem to hold the ball in mid-field and were beaten again and again with two-on-ones and three-on-ones.  We were losing 50/50 balls and gave the ball away too many times.

By the end of period one we were down 0-3. After that we improved our line-changes and began to turn the tide in mid-field, passing more fluently and holding the ball with more confidence. By half-time we had played back to 2-5.  But we never fully regained our rhythm on attack and missed a number of opportunities.  We also lost concentration in defense and let in a couple of silly goals, giving up the area around the semi-circle to allow open shots on Mike R.  Not a pretty game.  Final score 5-7.  Next game for the Men is at 9:30 on Wednesday, Feb 11; then 5:30 on Monday, Feb 16.

Co-Ed:

The Co-ed team played a strong game this week and remain top of the league with one game to go. It was an evenly matched game but we stayed focused, subbed smartly, and kept our cool.  We benefited from the presence of Lindsey in mid-field and were strengthened in defense by Michelle. Kelley and Karen, a Soccerdome regular, gave us options in attack. And Heather controlled the transition game, teaming up with Diego and Ferdinand to move the ball from mid-field into the danger-zone.

Still, the game remained tied at 0-0 until half-time (which was, by the way, at 1:12 a.m.!)

In the second half Kyle and Heather paired up to give us even more mobility and explosiveness in mid-field.  Despite giving up a couple of two-minute penalties, one for a slide-tackle, the other for a bad line-change, we held strong in defense. Karen finally broke the deadlock a few minutes into the fourth.  Again the game tightened, but Heather broke through to make it 2-0.  As the clock ticked down Kyle made it 3-0 with a nice low shot under the goalie.

Next Co-ed game is at 8:30 on Friday, Feb 13.
