The Omega Co-Ed team in the Friday night league at the Soccerdome continues to have fun and play some very good soccer. Last night we were honored to be joined by Heather Bartlett, an Omega Alumni who played College Soccer at the University of South Dakota.

Heather brings some true Omega style to the team, playing excellent positional play, making lovely lateral and forward passes, changing pace to find open space, and shooting with a powerful left foot to beat the other team's very competent goalkeeper.

We were also joined by Kelly, Lindsey, Britney, and Erin, Kyle's sister: these women add great zest and skill. Nathan and Kyle took turns in goal; Lee played a strong game in mid-field; Carlitos and Fabian added control and prowess; and Steve played his accustomed grunge-role as the last line of defense.

But it took us two periods to find our shape. We were against a team with some very good players and it turned into a dynamic game that could have gone either way.  After going down 0-1 on an excellent goal from a precise pass across the box, we struggled to gain our balance, finally drawing level on a left-footer from Heather.  By half-time we were ahead 2-1 courtesy of a goal by Fabian that somehow stayed below the cut-off line (a line one foot above the goal-line below which men can score when the ball has been made "live" in the attacking end by being touched by a woman).  But then one of their more experienced players drew a foul on the edge of the box, making an aggressive lunge look like a foul by our defender, scoring from the free-kick.

It was a 2-2 game until mid-way through the fourth. Both teams were passing the ball well and both were fighting hard to win 50/50 balls.  With five minutes to go it looked like it would finish tied.  But Heather thought differently.  Combining with Lindsey and Britney, Heather zipped through their defense, drew the ball into open space to the left of the box, and zinged a low shot under the goalie.  Two minutes later, combining with Erin and Kelly, she did the same again! The men hanging about in our defensive end looked like spare parts during the last five minutes as we just stood and watched Heather and her demon-sisters put the game away. With one more goal by Lindsey, we ended the game at 5-2.

Next game is at 12:30 a.m on Friday night (actually Saturday morning!), on February 6th (again, actually the 7th).  We remain top of the league.
