The Omega Men's team continued its league-topping season with a 14-1 victory on Thursday night. We have been playing a much better defensive game in recent matches, covering the central area in front of goal with careful discipline while putting pressure on the ball as it comes through mid-field.  Our passing game has improved and we have developed the confidence to build our attacking game by sending  three forward with a mid-fielder holding ground behind the line of attack and the central defender pushing to half-way.

Many of our goals came from passes to the goalkeeper's weak-side, with relatively easy tap-ins.  Our Honduran genius, Manny, is back in the game after being out since January with an ankle operation; and his partnership with Carlos, the El Salvadoran, gives us fluidity in our transition game. Even though he is not yet 100%, Manny's ability to hold and control the ball gives us a number of options up front.

Mike Coons did a great job pushing forward, pressuring the ball and taking shots: he scored a lovely looping shot over the goalkeeper's head. But most goals came from the combination of Luis and Henry, who made a series of penetrating runs, following by delicate passes, to open the other team's defence.

Our next game is on Thursday, December 3 at 7:45. The most likely scenario is that we'll be playing to win the league on December 10 at 8:40.  But stay tuned.

We are still happy to add players for the new season, starting in mid-December.  Contact Steve Dilks at 816-678-3755 or sdilks@omegasc.com for more information.
